Product Overview
A WISCONSIN LEGEND SINCE 1931: Long ago, under a full moon deep in the Wisconsin northern woods, this legendary Black Bear was first seen lapping up a puddle of root beer. Prowling the wilderness for decades since, Clara and her descendants have been spotted across North America in the most remote forests on the continent sampling the flavors of America. History of Black Bear Soda
In 1920, Louis Patmont opened a spring water bottling company at the source of a spring in St. Francis Wisconsin. In choosing a name for his company, Patmont looked no further than his own unusual pet -- a bear cub. He named the business Black Bear. The business introduced its sodas in 1931 when Lucas Unger became its owner. Black Bear Soda has been a favorite Wisconsin soda ever since.
In 1961 Black Bear was acquired by the WIT Beverage Company (WBC) owned by the Caruso family who moved bottling to Oak Creek, WI in the early 2000’s. Sprecher Brewing, the oldest Craft Brewery in Milwaukee, acquired the Black Bear Brand from WIT Beverage Co. in late 2021.
