Product Overview

Moxie's flavor is unique, as it is not as sweet as most modern soft drinks and is described by some as "bitter." Moxie is flavored with gentian root extract, an extremely bitter substance which was reputed to possess medicinal properties. Moxie has the distinction of being described as both "a great tasting soda" and "an acquired taste." However you describe it, one thing is for sure, it takes a special kind of Moxie to try it for the first time.... and to love it forever.
Live your life with Moxie, buy some.

Moxie Original Elixir Features:

  • The oldest continuously produced soft drink in the U.S
  • Moxie has been "Distinctively Different" since 1884
  • Sweetened with cane sugar
  • 12 ounce glass bottles

About Moxie

moxie.pngMoxie is the oldest continuously produced soft drink in the United States. Established in 1876 it was originally known as Moxie Nerve Food. It was claimed to be effective against "paralysis, softening of the brain, nervousness, and insomnia". A few years later, soda water was added to the formula, which is the iconic soda we have come to know and love as Moxie. With its unique and somewhat bitter flavor, Moxie is unlike any drink on the market. Moxie is closely associated with the state of Maine and was designated the official soft drink of Maine on May 10, 2005. Its creator, Dr. Augustin Thompson, was born in Union, Maine, but Moxie was invented and first produced in Lowell, Massachusetts.

    “I’m a Moxie Man now!”

Posted by The Dude on May 5th 2023

The initial taste of moxie is great! It has that root beer cola flavor you thought you would taste after smelling it. It’s cool, refreshing, unique… something you could really see yourself buying from here on out. “To Hell with Coke!” you’d say.

    Moxie in Bottles!

Posted by Anthony N. on May 5th 2023

I generally can't find Moxie in bottles and canned anything just doesn't seem to taste the same. Maybe its just something psychological, but it "works for me"! I was also impressed with how well everything was packed. I'll happily re-order again!

Moxie is a New England thing

I have consumed moxie my whole life and I’m 77 yo. I’ve been drinking the canned version but decided to up my experience. Bottled soda is always better. Packaging was spot on and greatly appreciated.

    The Good Old Days

Posted by Keith W. on May 5th 2023

My stepfather worked on a Moxie delivery truck as a young teen. (About 70 years ago.) He sometimes talks about he could have a free Moxie. I decided to get him some for Father's Day. It wasn't the most expensive gift, but he was very happy (and surprised) to receive it. He says it doesn't taste quite the same as it did 70 years ago, but I guess that's true for most things nowadays.

    Best Daahn Soda!

Posted by Ethan B. on May 5th 2023

As a New England transplant to California, finding Moxie is just about impossible. Imagine my sweet relief when a box full of divine nectar arrives at my doorstep. My entire being rejoiced as my parched soul’s New England thirst was slaked by the overpowering draught. Alas, the six bottles of life giving beverage were too soon gone. Until next we meet. All hail Moxie!
